A longer center span makes the pitch estimate easier to check.
Pitch is the nominal centerline spacing between equivalent adjacent contacts. Measuring across multiple intervals reduces the relative effect of caliper placement and reading error, but the result still needs a drawing.

Formula: pitch = first-to-last contact-center span / (positions - 1). The nearest listed value is only a search candidate. Repeat the measurement, then verify pin layout, hole size, housing, orientation, mating geometry, electrical data, drawing and a physical sample.
MEASUREMENT WORKFLOW
Six checks before treating the result as a candidate.

Count every physical position.
A four-position terminal has three center-to-center intervals. Do not divide by the position count itself.

Find the contact or pin centers.
Use the centers of equivalent contacts in one row. Do not use the outside housing edges or screw-head diameter.
- 03
Measure across several intervals.
Measure from the first center to the last center. A longer span reduces the effect of reading and caliper-placement error.
- 04
Divide by positions minus one.
The result is a nominal pitch estimate. Compare it with documented centerline values and repeat the measurement.
- 05
Verify the complete mechanical interface.
Check hole and pin layout, rows, housing, wire entry, actuation, mating pair, keying, latch, flange and enclosure access.
- 06
Close ratings and sample approval.
Pitch cannot establish current, voltage, conductor range, material, certification or interchangeability. Confirm the exact drawing and sample.

What is terminal block pitch?
Pitch is the nominal center-to-center distance between equivalent adjacent contacts or positions in the same row. Product manufacturers also describe it as centerline spacing.
Why do I divide by positions minus one?
Intervals sit between positions. A four-position block has three intervals, so the first-to-last center span covers three pitches.
Can I measure the total housing width instead?
No. Housing walls, end features, latches and flanges add dimensions that are not part of the contact-center pitch.
Does the nearest listed pitch prove the replacement will fit?
No. It is only a candidate for further checking. Verify the exact PCB pin layout, hole size, housing, orientation, mating geometry, ratings, drawing and sample.
Why are 5.0 mm and 5.08 mm separate candidates?
They are distinct nominal centerline values. The 0.08 mm difference accumulates across multiple intervals and can matter to a fixed PCB footprint.
Can pitch measurement reveal the electrical rating?
No. Current, voltage, conductor range, temperature, materials and required documents belong to the exact model and operating conditions.
